Delaware Solid Waste Authority hosts recollection events

DELAWARE – The Delaware Solid Waste Authority, also known as the DSWA has hosted several recollection events with the imperative to promote better waste management practices in the state of Delaware.

Chief of Business Mike Parkowski says it’s important for people to understand recycling every day should be the norm, “I just think it’s important for people to understand that recycling is real, we do it every day we do about 105,000 tons a year that gets moved to market.” said Parkowski.

The event is there to recycle metal products, household goods, hazardous wastes, and electronics. The process of getting from landfill to market is extensive, which is why Parkowski pushes for certain items to be donated instead of dropped off, “if you have things that someone else can use, like donations, goodwill, churches, not just bringing them to the landfill because someone else can use them immediately.” said Parkowski.

Metals are also extremely important because there is only a certain amount that is still in our environment that can be mined, Parkowski says these metals need to be recycled to sustain our environment, “Old electronics have a lot of pressure metals in them and they can be recycled and they can be used, so it’s real important that they are used. There is only so much metal that can be used from the ground.”

If you would like to donate or recycle any items no longer need or used, you can visit the DWSA website here: https://dswa.com/collection-event-schedule/
