DCPS Discusses THRIVE with Cambridge Association of Neighborhoods

Dcps Preps For Strategic Plan

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – As Dorchester County public schools continue their rollout of their THRIVE initiative geared towards combating childhood poverty, they’ve reached out to the Cambridge Association of Neighborhoods to hear from local homeowners and how the community can help set these kids up for success.

The goal of THRIVE is to help reduce childhood poverty in the 21613 ZIP Code. So the Association of Neighborhoods wanted to hear more about the plan, as well as put the school system in touch with the right people.

“So they do have really good connections. We talk about non-profits and local resources and things that we might not even have connections to. And so being able to plug in with people here kind of opens another door for us to be able to funnel those resources to this, the feeder pattern for THRIVE,” says DCPS Communications Specialist, Casey O’Bier.

WMDT caught up with a few Cambridge homeowners after the meeting about their thoughts on THRIVE, and how many of them throwing their support behind it.

Local homeowner, Katie Day says, “The future of the schools and the future of the community are very intertwined. And so I would hope that. Many more people would engage this.”

Even residents without children or grandchildren in Dorchester County schools.

“They don’t have to be my kids, but they’re the kids of the community, kids of our future, and the kids of our nation. So stronger families, stronger communities, stronger nations,” says Cambridge resident, DeAnna Brathwaite.
