Celebrating Independence Day In Dover

DOVER, Del. – Locals and tourists alike gathered in Dover Thursday to celebrate Independence Day.

“Big. Huge. If you could imagine the street. You can’t see the street when people are out here.” Andrea Spriggs has been coming to Dover’s 4th of July celebration for as long as she can remember. She said the crowds are incredible once evening arrives, but how do they handle the heat before the sun goes down?

“We usually get, like, cold packs, put it around our necks and stuff like that. So that’s how we’re keeping cool. But usually when we’re busy, we’re not worried about being hot,” said Spriggs.

Rodney Korst and his son Thomas were in town from Colorado. They felt the historic location of the celebration makes for an extra special independence day: “We’d never been here before, and we decided to join the festivities here and just look around and see the museums and stuff and the history behind it all.”

Between the parade, vendors, live music, and fireworks show there was be plenty for them to enjoy. But like most people, Korst knew exactly what he was looking forward to the most: “Just [enjoying] the vendors and actually waiting for the fireworks. You know, that’s the main thing, the fireworks.”
