DSU to graduate first-ever early childhood cohort

DOVER, Del. – The first cohort of Delaware State University’s early childhood program are being celebrated.

The program is in collaboration with the school, Gvernor John Carney’s office and the state Department of Education. 200 students will be awarded for completing their Child Development Associate. It’s international recognition, meaning they can use the certification anywhere for opportunities. The collaboration comes after redesigning DSU’s early childhood education support model.

The school says the students have completed coursework to deliver a higher level education experience. “So as education changes, the needs of children change. And by committing to getting a CDA or an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree, it really signals to families, it signals to employers that this workforce is ready to take on those challenges,” said Kimberly Krzanowski, the Executive Director of the Early Childhood Innovation Center at Delaware State University.

DSU has over 100 students registered for the next cohort and the ceremony is taking place Friday for all of the students.
