$2 million announced to combat youth homelessness in Maryland
MARYLAND – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently announced $2 million in funding for the state of Maryland to address youth homelessness.
Local advocates said they’ve been seeing increasing rates of homelessness on the eastern shore, among both young people and entire families.
“I’m hoping that the money that has been announced does find its way here locally. But it the money is very competitive, and so we just want to make sure that the Eastern Shore does see that funding,” said Amber Green, Executive Director of the Fenix Youth Project.
Green added that beyond direct funding, what they want more than anything is to raise awareness. The Fenix Youth Project recently held a town hall with Maryland Housing Secretary Jake Day. Green said events like that are the first step to combating youth homelessness.
