Emerging Leaders: Calista Sweeney and Apeksha Agarwal

47ABC – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to some new emerging leaders.

Back in March, three teams from Wicomico County competed at the Maryland State Destination Imagination Tournament and qualified for the global finals!

This morning, Calista Sweeney and Apeksha Agarwal, stopped by Good Morning Delmarva to share more about their experience competing at both competitions!

Apeksha Agarwal attends Parkside High School and is a part of the Phantabulous Phantoms.

Calista Sweeney attends Westside Intermediate School and is a part of the Backstreet Girls.

Agarwal tells us that Destination Imagination is all about students coming together as a team to complete a challenge using STEM and community service.

She says you have to use both creative and cognitive skills to complete the tasks.

Apeksha says she’s being doing Destination Imagination for 6 years so to finally reach the global finals was a dream come true!

Sweeney tells us they got to meet other students from all over the world which was a good cultural experience.

They both say they’ve developed their social skills and confidence through this experience.

To learn more about these two and their experience competing, watch the full interview!

If you think you know someone that would be perfect for our Emerging Leaders segment, please send us your recommendation at newsroom@wmdt.com
