Local program teaches youth different life skills

WORCETER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services is set to host a special event to help kids thrive.
Since March, the organization has been hosting life skills seminars, where they teach kids ages 6-18 everything, from changing a tire to how to sew.
This June, in partnership with Taylor Bank, they’ll be teaching kids the value of saving.
Director of Worcester Connects, Kayla Figueroa, said starting children early can help them be better prepared later in life.
“These are just skills that I find myself, at 27, looking for and asking for help, so why not start younger,” Figueroa said.
They’re also looking for volunteers willing to teach kids new skills. Figueroa said they need people with all different types of skill sets, like customer service and public speaking.
