CAMBRIDGE. Md. – People from across Maryland went to the Phillips Packing House in Cambridge, for a day of learning and development.

At the all-corps event, the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation gave eager learners the tools they need to excel in the work force.

For cohort member and Baltimore County native, Leslie Perez Lascano, this gave her a better idea of what her future would look like, serving the people of Maryland.

“It was my first time ever being this far in Maryland,” Perez Lascano said. “Getting a different experience makes me see the bigger picture of what our community is.”

Participants learned an array of different skills, from Narcan administration to community engagement.

Secretary of the department of services, Paul Monteiro, said this new wealth of knowledge helps show all of the learners that they’re intertwined, no matter where they are in the state.

“Service is one of those few things left that brings us together across lines of division. Service will save us,” Monteiro said. “It’s important that all of our members recognize the different part of the state and understand that they’re all important, regardless of what part they’re from.”

Looking forward to completing more training, and eventually graduating from the program, Perez Lascano said this experience is setting her up for future success.

“If you don’t know where you’re heading, it’s a great way to learn about new workforces, and also just nonprofits in Maryland, to help the community,” Perez Lascano said.

Monteiro encouraged anyone who wants to learn how to better serve their community, to enroll in the upcoming cohort. The Program will kick off on September 11th. You can enroll at www.Serve.Maryland.Gov.
