Racial remarks removed at Laurel’s Tidewater Park

LAUREL, Del. – In Laurel, a resident is raising concerns about racial remarks on the beaver structure at Tidewater Park.

On the park, there were racial remarks and symbols. The parent’s concern was for other kids having to see this signage, so they took to Facebook to alert the community. Laurel Police saw the post and confirmed the markings on the structure. The town was made aware so that it could be removed.

WMDT spoke with Laurel Police who encouraged parents to stay vigilant. “Laurel is safe in the playground, we are always driving by that area and I would welcome families to bring their kids there. This is what seems like an isolated incident. I think that if parents are always vigilant like they should be and keeping an eye on those things and listening to what their kids are telling them I think this can all be avoided in the future,” said Corporal Kevin Lieber with the Laurel Police Department.

The markings on the park have since been removed. Corporal Lieber encourages residents to let them know if they see anything strange in the community.
