Laurel man arrested for resisting arrest

LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police have charged a man with resisting arrest for a second time.

At around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, an officer on patrol was conducting a property check of the Hollybrook Apartments due to the high crime rate in the area. The officer observed a man walking on Grazing Court, who caught the officer’s attention by his reported deliberate attempts to avoid detection by the officer and covering his face entirely with a hooded sweatshirt. The man then walked between buildings to get away from the officer.

A short time later, the officer located the same man on Pasture Lane, acting in the same manner. The officer subsequently stopped the man, who immediately became argumentative and uncooperative with the officer, refusing to identify himself or establish what he was doing in the marked No Trespassing/No Loitering community. The officer tried to detain the man in handcuffs for further investigation, at which time the subject reportedly began resisting arrest, breaking the officer’s body-worn camera off of his uniform during the struggle. The man was eventually handcuffed with the assistance of Delaware State Police troopers.l

The subject was identified as 25-year-old Joshua Allen, who was arrested back in March and released on an $8 unsecured bond for a vehicle chase in the same area. In this incident, police say Allen also resisted arrest.

Allen was charged with resisting arrest with force or violence in this incident and was also arraigned for an additional active warrant issued by Justice of the Peace Court 4. He was released on a $1000 unsecured bond on the new charge, and the capias was changed to a payment agreement and cleared.
