Man arrested for falsely reporting burglary, teens arrested for guns

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested 47-year-old Andrew May of Bridgeville, Delaware for falsely reporting a burglary and two teenagers for felony gun offenses.

On April 17, 2024, at  7:08 a.m., troopers responded to the 11000 block of Abby’s Way in Bridgeville for a burglary. May told troopers that someone had come into his house and stolen a gun. During the investigation, detectives learned that no one entered May’s house and that he gave the gun to one teenager and the ammunition and magazines to another. Through further investigation, detectives identified both teenagers. The investigation also revealed that the teenager sold the gun, and it has not been recovered. This investigation is ongoing.

On April 19, 2024, May responded to Troop 4 and was arrested. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.

  • Giving a Firearm to a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Falsely Reporting an Incident

The 15-year-old turned himself in and was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person under 18 (felony) and possession of ammunition by a person under 18 (felony). The 15-year-old was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.

The other 15-year-old turned himself in and was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person under 18 (felony) and giving a firearm to a person prohibited (felony). The 15-year-old was released to a parent.
