Comprehensive plan for Somerset County underway

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – Changes are on the way in Somerset County  but leaders need the public’s input.

The county’s comprehensive plan is getting some updates since the last major one was in 2010. The plan was first created in 1996 and since then, the county has hired a consultant to help with rewriting it from start to finish. The plan will impact transportation, schools, and zoning.

County leaders say input from community members matters because you should know how these changes will impact you. “The comprehensive plan is very important for the community because it guides the county as a whole for the next 10 to 20 years. Usually these plans last 10 to 15, sometimes 20 years on average. So you want it to reflect what you want to see the community,” said Jesse Drewer, the Director of Somerset Coutny Technical and Community Services.

Drewers says the process should wrap up by the fall. If you’d like to take the survey click here.
