Collin O’Mara files for Delaware gubernatorial race
DELAWARE – Collin O’Mara has become the first candidate to officially file for Delaware’s gubernatorial race.
The Democrat is the CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, and a former Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control secretary. In his campaign announcement video, O’Mara vowed to fight climate change, and to push for cleaner air and water.
O’Mara also said he wanted to fix what he called a broken education system.
“I am running to… ensure equitable student funding; to finally enact universal pre-K, provide every child with free school breakfast and lunch, so they’re ready learn, invest in neighborhood schools, and deliver substantial pay increases for educators,” O’Mara said in the video.
Another goal set out by O’Mara: create 40,000 jobs. He says that would be achieved by building out more infrastructure, expanding entrepreneurship, and working with the federal government to invest in clean energy, tech, and agriculture.
“We’ll support working families by making housing, health care, and child care more affordable,” O’Mara said in the video. “Fixing our workforce development system and ensuring paid sick leave.”
Abortion, civil, and voting rights were also named by O’Mara as top priorities. He also promised a new constitutional amendment, if elected, to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
“We can do all of these things, and so much more, but only if we elect new, progressive leaders who think bigger and act bolder,” O’Mara said in the video.
Delaware’s gubernatorial election will take place on November 5th, 2024.
