Man arrested on multiple accounts, following bicycle chase

Thumbnail ImageSEAFORD, Del. – On Friday, March 8th at 11:08 P.M., a Seaford Police Department Officer stopped 22-year-old Schweitzer Dessin, who ran away on foot and was later found to have narcotics.

On March 8th, a Seaford Police Officer saw a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk and then northbound in the southbound lane of Front Street without a light. When the officer turned on his emergency equipment, Dessin began running away from the officer. Dessin got off the bike and ran on foot down West King Street, continuing to run through properties. During the course of the chase, the officer fell, injuring their leg and continued to chase Dessin. Another officer located Dessin in the Poplar Street and Arch Street area before taking him to custody. A search of Dessin’s person found suspected heroin and crack cocaine.

During the chase, two responding police units were involved in a vehicle collision in the area of Market Street and 3rd Street. One patrol vehicle struck a home, causing damage. The occupants in the home were not injured. The two officers in the collision and the officer injured during the chase were treated at the local hospital.

Dessin was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, assault 3rd, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, riding on bike on the sidewalk, and riding a bike without a headlight.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to SCI on a $5,600.000 secured bond.
