33rd annual Polar Bear Plunge making big return to Rehoboth Beach boardwalk
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- We’re just a little over a week away from the 33rd annual Polar Bear Plunge’s return to the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach.
WaWa is sponsoring the plunge on behalf of Special Olympics Delaware. Wawa is also accepting donations through February 19th at most store locations to benefit Special Olympics chainwide.
The event has raised more than $1 million annually for the past three years alone.
Organizers tell us that every dollar raised stays in the state supporting the thousands of children and adult athletes with intellectual disabilities. “We’re the only state in the country where there’s absolutely no charge for the athletes who take part in this opportunity. They not only become better athletes but make friends with people with or without disabilities and truly experience what it’s like to be successful,” Special Olympics Delaware’s Jon Buzby said.
Registration is $75 until January 30th. After that, the fee will go up to $100 up until the day of the plunge.
The event will be Sunday February 4th at 1:00 p.m.
