Salisbury Jewish community thankful for support amid rising anti-semitism nationally

CaptureSALISBURY, Md – Temple Beth Israel members in Salisbury are thankful for the community despite reports of rising anti-Semitism nationally.

According to the FBI hate crimes have been rising every year since 2014, and recorded a sharp uptick in anti-Semitic, islamaphobic, and anti-Palestinian violence following the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas.

Temple Beth Israel board member Andrew Karten says anti-semetism is nothing new for the Jewish community to face, but they are grateful for the support shown by their neighbors in Salisbury and those looking to learn about their culture and how to help combat hate.

“It’s reassuring us that we live in a very supportive community, not only of us as Jews but of other religions as well, and we always have a lot of interfaith activities, and support from the community,” Karten said.
