Somerset band teacher on leave following Worcester Co. past student relationship charges
BERLIN, Md. – A Somerset County teacher is facing charges, accused of having a relationship with a student back in the 90s. Somerset County Schools confirm Somerset Intermediate band teacher Ron Davis was placed on administrative leave last month.
Somerset County Schools said, “Mr. Ron Davis was placed on administrative leave in mid-October, immediately after SCPS district administration learned of the allegations from the investigating law enforcement agency. The alleged events occurred before Mr. Davis was hired by Somerset County Public Schools.”
The charges stem from his time as a band teacher at Stephen Decatur High School in Worcester County. According to charging documents he had a sexual relationship with his student, a 16/17-year-old girl at the time. The documents also show he resigned from the school before leaving to teach in Somerset County. The Worcester County School District released the following statement, “Mr. Ron Davis was employed at Worcester County Public Schools from August 1988 to August 1992. The school system is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation; however, as this is a personnel matter and an active investigation, we will not comment further. ”
Davis is facing two charges: child abuse: custodian and assault. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office advised, “this case is still under investigation. Anyone with any information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office. Detective Vicki Martin is the lead investigator.” The number for the Sheriff’s Office is 410-632-1111.
