Local competitor hopes to take strongman gold in Maryland

SALISBURY, Md. – Cody Perdue is bringing strongman hardware back to the eastern shore, after winning the 231 pound novice division in Delaware Strongman in Rehoboth on April 6.

His win in Delaware’s strongest man competition this month came just a year after returning to the gym. His obstacles started with a bad shoulder injury during an SU football event.

“It got to the point where I just throw my hand down and it would just pop, just like that,” said Perdue. “It was busted apart, looked like someone took scissors and just cut out the labrum.”

After successful surgery, Perdue pursued a career in MMA in Florida, but returned after feeling homesick.

For two years after returning to the eastern shore Perdue was out of the gym entirely, helping to raise his three daughters.

Then he found Iron Strong CrossFit in Salisbury, where he reignited his passion for competition.

Over the past year of training, Perdue has befriended a number of men in the area who have been instrumental to his victory in Rehoboth.

Helping to bring trophies back to Delmarva in an event where not many locals participate.

The next competiton for Perdue will be on August 10 in Norfolk, a national Strongman competition. He will compete in the Maryland Strongman competition in November.
