La Collectiva to hold Latino parent engagement event in Georgetown Saturday
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Latino resource organization La Collectiva in Georgetown is looking to increase resources and information for Latino parents and students in Sussex County.
The group aims to increase connections in the growing Latino community and will be holding a parent education event this Saturday at DelTech Owens Campus in Georgetown.
The event will feature a half-day summit, which will include multiple sessions that address key topics for parent involvement in schools, led in both Spanish and English.
The main topics that will be discussed at the Summit are Parent-School Communication, how parents can support learning at home, volunteering at school, how parents can get involved in decision-making and leadership at school, and how parents as community members can collaborate to support their kids in school.
“The difference we’re hoping to see at this summit is that Spanish-speaking parents feel welcome and comfortable to learn and ask questions, as well as voicing their concerns,” said Executive Director Jennifer Fuqua.
Fuqua says 15 organizations will be taking part and those looking for more information can visit https://www.laesperanzacenter.org/padres/#ENGLISH
