Briddell tops 1,000 as Decatur holds off Bennett

The Stephen Decatur Seahawks once again played a close second half, and once again prevailed against a hungry opponent, this time defeating Bennett 77-67.

Late in the first quarter, Seahawks senior guard Gary Briddell scored his 1,000th career point. Although his biggest accolade came early in the game, Briddell, who played his first three years at Parkside, would prove to be the calm Decatur leaned on down the stretch.

Despite breaking off good runs in the second quarter, the Seahawks only went into the locker room with a 34-30 lead. They would push their lead to as much as 17 in the third quarter, and lead by 15 going into the fourth. Bennett would go on a run, led by some hot shooting by Otis Russell Jr (game-high 29 points). The Clippers would cut Decatur's lead to 6, but never get inside to tie the game. Decatur closed the game strong to remain unbeaten at home.
