The Brightside: Movie Character Corvettes
SEAFORD, Del. -Movie Character Corvettes, a small group of three men out of Sussex County, Delaware that make it their mission to turn their car enthusiasm into a way to make people happy with their uniquely designed cars.
“What started as a joke turned out to be a real big hit,” according to Buddy Lamb, one of the members of Movie Character Corvettes. Alongside Lamb, Gary Alsop, and Bruce Wayne are all long-time car enthusiasts who have a knack for creativity, when it comes to sprucing up their cars. One car show two years ago – became a long-running joke among the three friends after one of them dressed up as Batman.
However, it’s now turned into a three-man effort to take their jokes, good times, and unique cars everywhere. “We’re not paid to do what we do, it’s our donation to society in hopes that we touch someone’s life and make them a special person or at least feel like a special person,” says Wayne.
Wayne, who doesn’t stay true to his name outside of his bat-man-themed car, prefers to dress up as the Joker, while Lamb dresses up as Batman, and Alsop is Detective Dick Tracy. These men travel around to car shows, children’s hospitals, events, and much more to inspire other car enthusiasts, and of course, make people happy. “When they go to a car show, they’re not just looking at a normal car, what we call a cookie cutter car, they’re looking at something they can relate to based on their age coming up today,” says Wayne. Alsop adds, “When you see the kids come, the little ones, the 10, 12-year-olds, and their eyes light up and they’re like wow and it just makes you feel good.”
We’re told the small group looks to set themselves apart with their iconic cars, in hopes of creating more buzz around car culture, as well as donating their time to create memories for people of all ages. With a fan base from two years old to 92, members of the group say they make sure everyone is included. Wayne tells us, “They want to look at superheroes, they want to look at stuff like their games so that’s why we have this type of show so that we can entertain them.” Alsop also says, “We give out little trophies and little hot wheel cars, but the thing is most people remember the first car they fell in love with.”
What may seem like just another car show to fans, we’re told it’s so much more. Members tell 47 ABC, to be able to use their hobby as a way to help create memories while getting involved in their community, is the most rewarding part. “It’s just something that we do that makes us happy to make someone happy, that’s what it’s all about,” says Wayne.
All three members tell us, their ability to travel around and represent Delaware is a bonus, and as retirees, they say they hope this is something they’re able to do for as long as possible. “I tell people sometimes, we’re one fall away from being in a nursing home or a walker or being in a spot where were messed up and not able to do this,” says Alsop. Lamb adds, “We’re going to keep doing it until we can’t no more.”
Their next gig will be Saturday, September 30th at Dover Speedway, where they will participate in ‘Laps for Kids’ which helps to raise money for children who are in need.
