Rain, rain go away: Folk Fest comes back for its last day

SALISBURY, Md. – Tropical storm Ophelia may have stopped the Folk Festival Saturday, but it didn’t bring down the spirits of attendees and vendors, like ASAP Screen Printing.

“I’m really excited, I mean, there was a lot of work and planning put into this and of course you can’t control Mother Nature – so today I think she’s going to give us a little bit of a break so that we can get out here and the town can enjoy some great music,” Darrell Meade, owner of ASAP Screen Printing, said.

Like other vendors, Dr. Joan M.E. Gaither made her way to the Folk Fest to showcase some of her handmade art.

“I just wanted to document seven generations that we have found out about,” Dr. Gaither said.

Dr. Gaither said that the Folk Festival gave her the perfect opportunity to share a part of herself in a creative way.

“This is my story; you can’t tell me what to put on my story, and I’ve been living and going through growing up as a black woman in America, Since the 1940s,” Dr. Gaither said.

“You go places, you travel, you share, and I just think people need to be more aware of the contributions that are coming into our country,” Dr. Gaither added.

Now, vendors are counting on attendees to patronize their businesses one last time.

“Just gotta hope everybody comes out to embrace this and help support the local businesses that are putting so much effort into this,” Meade said.
