Legislation aims to expand child advocacy centers in Maryland

SALISBURY, Md. – One bill that could help victims of child abuse is now on it’s way to a Senate vote after being passed in the House.
House Bill 1007 would expand and strengthen child advocacy centers across the state of Maryland. It aims to strengthen what CAC’s do in the communities already, essentially helping child victims, to ensure that every kid has access to a center by giving them some backbone and funding.

“Child Advocacy Centers are an important resource for children in our communities and families but those children can go to one place and tell their story one time and hopefully it to the prosecution in accountability on a criminal side of that perpetrator,” explains Life Crisis Center Executive Director Abby Marsh.

Each county on the lower shore has their own child advocacy center already, but funding is always an issue. Right now Worcester County is the only accredited advocacy center.
