Florida men arrested for using stolen credit cards in Delaware
LAUREL, Del. – Two Florida men were arrested in Delaware on Wednesday after police say they tried to buy car parts with stolen credit cards.
Just after 10 a.m., troopers were called to West Side Auto Parts in Laurel for a report of someone at the store trying to buy car parts using several different credit cards. When officers arrived at the scene, two suspects reportedly drove away in a U-Haul van. Officers pursued the van until it came to a stop on Ellis Grove Road at Collins Lane.
Inside the van, troopers found a large number of cell phones, tablets, unused gift cards, and auto parts, in addition to a credit card scanner and embosser machine. Further investigation showed that the pair had used information stolen from six credit cards to try to purchase more than $22,000 worth of car parts.
The two men were identified as 19-year-old Ernest Ashlet and 30-year-old Sebastien Mombes, both of Orlando, Florida. Both were arrested on numerous charges, including theft, possession of forgery devices, and organized retail crime. They were held at SCI on $45,000 cash and $43,000 secured bonds, respectively.
