Safety Officer of the Lewes Fire Dept. honored as “First Responder Who Makes a Difference,” for August
LEWES, Del. – On Wednesday, 47 ABC WMDT teamed up with four Tire Pro locations to honor a First Responder Who Makes a Difference for August. Those Tire Pro locations include Burnett White Tire Pros in Salisbury, Nock’s Tire Pros in Pocomoke, Cook’s Tire Pros in Harrington, and In & Out Tire Pros in Millsboro. August’s nominee is Safety Officer Gregory Bennett from the Lewes Fire Department.
Bennett is a retired law enforcement officer who we’re told continues to dedicate his life to saving others. He was nominated for his impeccable response times, mentorship skills, and willingness to volunteer.
Bennett tells 47 ABC, that although he doesn’t do his job for recognition, being given this award was incredibly unexpected and humbling. He tells us he does what he does for the sake of being the helping hand someone needs in their worst moment. “They may be alone and scared and not know what’s going on and that’s why I make the extra effort to do as much as I can.” Bennett adds, “It’s great to have the support of the community and it’s also great to have the support of the members of the department, the fire chief, the president, that put me into positions to be able to make additional contributions and I’d like to thank everyone who made this award possible.”
Bennett also advises other first responders to always take time for themselves so they don’t get burnt out, and can continue to serve others.
The four Tire Pro locations gave Bennett a gift basket filled with goodies like a car wash gift card, Tire Pro gift cards, a roadside repair kit, and much more. Now he’s entered into a drawing to win a grand prize this December of a new set of tires valued at $1000.
One first responder will be honored each month June through November, leading into the grand prize drawing. You can enter a first responder you think is making a difference in the community by clicking here.
