Delaware vacation rentals seeing shorter stays, more competition

DELAWARE – If you’re looking for a vacation rental for your upcoming stay in one of Delaware’s resort destinations, you’re in luck. For property owners, competition is only growing.

Andrew Ratner with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Reality says the number of vacation rentals has doubled in the last few years.

Despite that, he tells us those listings are seeing shorter stays with some even being cut in half. Ratner says that could be due families cutting back on vacation expenses and more.

If you’re planning on investing in a rental home, he has some tips for you to keep in mind. “Do your research and talk to a professional that knows what the market is doing to guide you with the best way to market your property and position it as far as furnishings and making sure it’s in good repair. All those things add up,” Ratner said.

Ratner says in recent years the summer season has been extended to as late as September, adding that could give owners more opportunity to make up for the slower start to the season.
