Annual Fourth of July festival returns to Milton, helps build community connections

MILTON, Del.- “If you look around there’s everything from a bottle toss game and different bean bag games. There are so many old fashion games,” Falk said.

Games, food, and a classic water balloon fight was the perfect recipe for a 4th of July celebration. Tuesday, the annual Bring Mayberry Back to Milton Festival made its return. “Milton is such a charming town and it really hasn’t lost its luster when it comes to old time charm and history,” Falk said.

The free event is put on by the Milton Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Karen Falk says the event allows the chamber to expand their reach in the community. “Our mission is not only to support our local businesses, but also residents and visitors. We’re locally driven. We’re commerce driven. We’re all about downtown and the region,” Falk said.

The festival brought out hundreds near and far, including Melissa Brough’s family who traveled all the way from Korea. “This kind of small-town environment is great for kids, and I know my mom enjoys living out here,” Brough said.

Brough says not only do her children get the chance to connect to their roots in Delaware, but they also can continue making memories. “They get to learn about history, traditions, and they get to see how people celebrate the 4th of July. That’s really valuable and important to us,” Brough said.

That’s what the chamber says is their goal, getting visitors like Brough into town to see what Milton has to offer. “We’ve got new restaurants, a new winery, and we have breweries. What more could you ask for? We have a lot going on here,” Falk said.

Milton Chamber of Commerce says the event continues to see growth yearly and tell us that’s primarily due to their amazing sponsors.
