Pair arrested following shooting in Magnolia
MAGNOLIA, Del. – A shooting investigation that began Tuesday evening resulted in two arrests in Magnolia.
At around 6:45 p.m., troopers responded to the 100 block of Moores Drive for a reported shooting. It was learned that a 45-year-old man and 41-year-old woman had been walking on Moores Drive when a white pickup truck began approaching them. The front seat passenger allegedly shot at the couple several times ads the truck drove by and fled the scene.
Neither the man nor the woman was hit by gunfire.
A trooper found the suspect vehicle on Millchop Lane and stopped it as it pulled into a residential driveway. The trooper made contact with the passenger, identified as 61-year-old Howard Hampton, and tried to handcuff him, but he reportedly pulled away and resisted arrest. The trooper was eventually able to detain Hampton. The driver, 48-year-old Cheryl Brown, was also taken into custody. The gun used in the shooting was not recovered.
Hampton was also found to be a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition. He was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest. He was held at SCI on a $40,100 cash bond.
Brown was charged with second degree conspiracy and released on her own recognizance.
