DelDOT crews out in full force, despite the lack of snow

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Schools and businesses closed on Wednesday in anticipation for what was supposed to be snowy day. But instead things were just kind of icky. And even though the snow didn’t hit quite as hard as we expected, DelDOT was still out and working hard.

DelDOTs 80 Sussex County plow trucks were out in full force, despite the not so snowy conditions.

“It’s pretty hard to predict Mother Nature,” says Gary Licsko, equipment operator for DelDOT.

But even on days when the weather isn’t as severe as predicted, DelDOT tells 47 ABC they are still standing by at the ready.

“We are in a good position if something does happen. But right now we are in a wait and see pattern,” says Alastair Probert, DelDOT District Engineer.

Don’t let the lack of snow fool you. Crews were busying keep you safe, on the road.

“We are just monitoring conditions and if there’s any isolated icy spots, we will deal with them and will treat them,” says Probert.

DelDOT tells 47 ABC that the wintry mix doesn’t really change how they treat the roads. They’re still using salt, but just not plowing.

“You can see there the sleet is sticking in the center of the road I just put the salt on,” says Licsko.

While DelDOT isn’t very concerned with this storm system, they’d rather be safe than sorry.

“It’s better for us to be prepared and ready to respond in a quick manner. Because if it does go South, it would get bad real quickly,” says Probert.

DelDOT also tells us that drivers should be careful when they’re near plow trucks because they have plenty of blind spots.
