Dover man arrested on weapons charges
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a man on weapons charges Monday afternoon.
Detectives from the Drugs, Vice, and Organized Crime Unit say they received a tip that 45-year-old Joseph Carter was in possession of a rifle with a bump stock at a home located in the 400 block of New Castle Avenue. Officials also learned through a records check that Carter was wanted on several court capias’, and was also wanted by the Dover Police Department and Office of Animal Welfare.
Officials took Carter into custody as he left his home Monday afternoon, and found an AR 15 with a bump stock attachment inside the home.
Carter was charged with possession of a firearm by person prohibited, possession of a destructive weapon (bump stock), and local fugitive. He is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $20,500 bond. He was also wanted by Dover PD on an unrelated offensive touching charge and several other offenses through the Office of Animal Welfare, however, he was not issued a bond on any of those charges.
