New exhibit celebrates dynamic women of Milton

MILTON, Del.- In honor of Women’s History Month, The Milton Historical Society now unveiling a new exhibit celebrating women in the area who’ve made a lasting impact on the world.

It’s called Women of Milton: Breaking Free and Raising the Bar. Pieces date back to the 1800’s all the way up to 2021.

One woman being highlighted is the first woman registered to vote in the state of Delaware.

The historical society tells 47 ABC when constructing the exhibit, it was important to highlight dynamic women from all walks of life and to hear from the community to tell their stories. “One of the other important things to having a small historical society museum is to bring the community in. Some of the women on our walls are first-hand stories from people telling us about their mother that grew up here in Milton. They want to tell the history of what they did,” Board of Trustees President Randy Brown said.

“It’s kind of unusual historic stories that we knew we just had to tell. Not only that, but we wanted to make sure we included everyone in this area,” Development Director DeeDee Wood said.

The exhibit will remain open until December with additions being added throughout the year.
