DE mother petitioning to keep her son’s murderer behind bars

"Something is not right. That's what went through my head," says Peggy Brockway.

Peggy Brockway is referring to the night her son was murdered. In 1987,  her 18 year old son Dougie and his friend Ransford Bryan went squirrel hunting in nearby woods. Peggy says during that time Bryan was staying at her home because his parents had put him out.

However that evening in 1987, Bryan came home without Dougie.

"He came back to my house after blowing my sons head off and ordered pizza. Sat down ordered pizza and ate it," says Peggy.

Peggy says that Bryan apparently lied to police about what happened to Dougie.

"Randy told this story about how Dougie took off with somebody in a car, which I knew all that was wrong. Because you know your kids," says Peggy.

Peggy says three weeks later hunters found  Dougie's body in the woods, and currently Bryan is serving a life sentence for the murder of Dougie, but he will be up for parole for the seventh time.

In response to this, Peggy has started a petition again in the hopes that the parole board will keep him locked up behind bars.

This year she is looking to get 2,000 signatures.

"If I have to go through this every year, every six months, every six weeks I will do it, because I don't think we need those kind of people out," says Peggy.

Peggy admits this has taken a toll on her, but she tells us she does not believe Bryan is capable of redemption.

Even though prison guards say he shows remorse. He's found God, and all of this. Do I believe that? No," says Peggy.

Since Bryan has been in jail,  Peggy says he tried contacting her once. Fifteen  years ago he sent a letter, which she did not read.

"There's nothing he can say to me that could justify what he did," says Peggy.

Peggy tells 47 ABC she is not afraid of Bryan if he was to ever to get out of prison. However she is scared  that this can happen to an innocent person who doesn't known Bryan.

Peggy hopes her petition will continue to inspire other people to support any family who has had a family member murdered.

"We can't save our child right now but we can keep it from happening to other people's families," says Peggy.

Bryan's parole hearing scheduled for January 24th.

For those interested in signing her petition, Peggy can be contacted at her shop called Mickey's Magic Mirror in Lewes.
