Playoff game between Kent Island and Parkside ends in controversy

Sources alleged student section hurled racial slurs at Parkside Rams players; Multiple Rams players ejected in response after physical altercation

STEVENSVILLE, Md — Multiple sources allege members of Kent Island’s student fans used racial slurs towards Parkside basketball players during a playoff game between the Bucs and the Rams. It culminated with 42 seconds left in the game when Rams players tried to confront the Kent Island student section.

A Bucs player was struck in the head by a Parkside player around 42.2 seconds left in the game, causing a reaction that delayed the game. The referees decided to end the game and told multiple Rams players to go to the locker room.

The players were escorted away by the coaching staff and game officials.

Authorities have been made aware of what had happened and have told Parkside officials that the matter is being investigated.

Multiple sources tell 47ABC, allegedly the strike was retaliation for the Parkside players being called racial slurs throughout the game by fans.

Some players and family members from both sides have taken to social media to speak their minds, with Parkside players saying that it is true racial slurs were said and Kent Island players and fans stating no racial slurs were ever said during the game. 47 ABC has reached out to Queen Anne’s County Athletic Director Daniel Harding and  Wicomico County Communications Director Paul Butler for comment.

No official comment has been made yet.
