‘Operation Warm’ delivers winter coats to local school students
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – On Monday, Christmas came early to Pocomoke Elementary School students.
The Worcester County Professional Firefighter’s Association teamed up with “Operation Warm” to surprise kids with brand new winter coats.
Laura Wisneski with Operation Warm said, “This experience never gets old.”
Tekeisha Dennis an educational assistant at Pocomoke Elementary said, “It really warms my heart to see so many kids given coats for the winter time.”
Dennis orchestrated all of this for the school.
She tells 47 ABC, seeing the sparkle in these kids’ eyes makes this so worthwhile, and on top of brightening their day, she’s also happy to help their families.
Dennis said, “Some parents may not be able to afford coats, so giving back and giving them coats like this will help them.”
With dozens upon dozens of winter coats to chose from, these firefighters are making sure kids are cozy and warm this winter season.
Dennis also said, “They get to pick any color that they want! It is amazing.”
After kids picked out their favorite, the Worcester County Firefighters helped them personalize their new coats and sent them on their merry way.
One student, Jayden, tells us he can’t wait to break in his.
He said, “This coat is nice and it’s just what I need for the rain.”
Wisneski tells 47 ABC seeing kids, like Jayden, proud of their new coat is what fuels her organization’s mission.
She also said, “We believe at Operation Warm that a coat goes beyond physical warmth. It provides kids with joy and pride and ownership.”
Jayden said, “If it rains or if it snows I can wear this!”
The firefighters also visited Snow Hill Elementary on Monday and will visit Buckingham Elementary on Tuesday to deliver coats to those students.
The firefighters and operation warm are always looking for donations for their special program.
