Henlopen Football Preview: Polytech Panthers
WOODSIDE, Del. – Polytech is looking to make a dent in the Class 1A.
The move down from Division-I to 1A was a beneficial one for the Panthers last season. Not only did they finish 4-6 overall, the team was much more competitive overall, scoring double digits in points each of their final nine games. This after averaging just 4 points per game in 2020.
The Panthers graduated a small senior class last year, and they return a large number of juniors. But the first thing you’ll notice about the Panthers roster this year is their numbers overall. With 77 total players on the team.
The freshman and sophomore classes alone represent 55 of those 77, which means that these classes coming in could be the foundation for Polytech to become a football contender in the Class 1A in the coming seasons.
The team has a new head coach in David Eilers, who is back for his second stint.
