Wicomico Public Library is accepting school supplies ahead of the school year
SALISBURY, Md. – The school year is less than a month away and teachers and parents are getting ready to get back to work.
With inflation impacting prices, families in the area are getting some support. At the Wicomico Public Library, you can drop off supplies.
“It’s unfortunate that we’re one of the professions where educators are expected to buy their own supplies we don’t ask doctors to buy their gloves and stethoscopes and all those other things,” says Cheryl Bost, President for the Maryland State Education Association.
The school year is less than a month a way and teachers and families need supplies to equip students for the new year.
“Some of the basic needs are not supplied like hand sanitizer, tissues, and hand soap those should absolutely be provided by schools, I’ve seen those on lists,” says Cheryl Bost, President for the Maryland State Education Association. some people are asking for just paper which again should be supplied by the school systems,” says Cheryl Bost, President for the Maryland State Education Association.
One local library is trying to help solve the issue right here in Wicomico County.
“It is very important that all children are ready for school and back to school time is an exciting time but it may be difficult for some families especially low-income families or homeless 19.25.07 who cannot get supplies for their children,” says Anna Fenerty, the Youth Services Manager of the Wicomico Public Library.
With your donated supplies, the library will make some nice packages for local students.
“We just hope that everybody will bring donations to the library by August 14th so there is plenty of time to make book bags for kids but if you miss the August 14th deadline we will still take the donations,” says Anna Fenerty, the Youth Services Manager of the Wicomico Public Library.
By donating to the library, you can help educators greater goal of achieving a well-rounded education.
“Educators are always trying to be creative and set up inviting environments for their students, creative lessons and that takes additional resources,” says Cheryl Bost, President of the Maryland State Education Association.
The library will be starting its homework help center on September 6th. You can also check out the library for books they have on display about the first day of school jitters and healthy lunches for kids.
