Changing the scope of addiction recovery with holistic approach
GEORGETOWN, Del.- A calm presence fills the air as you stand on these grounds in Georgetown surrounded by trees, fresh produce. and more. The house that sits here will open its doors to women on their journey to recovery.
“My hope is that it changes the face of recovery and lots of recovery centers start using a holistic approach, there’s some out there there’s just not a lot,” Terilyn Cecil, a board member and Acting Vice President, said.
For the founder, who shared similar struggles, she wanted to bring the St. Vincent House of Transformation to life. It’ll be the first holistic residential women’s recovery house in the area- for long term addiction recovery. “It’s always been her passion to have the house to help woman and she wanted something that was truly holistic and something where we are not putting people on maintenance drugs;; and we want something that address the whole problems, we want to get through to the root cause,” Cecil said.
In the home, you’ll find 4 bedrooms, bathrooms, and a full kitchen. “We’ll also have people meal prepping for them, but we are also going to have people coming in to teach them how to cook,” Cecil said.
And, they’ll offer a variety of services from financial classes to chiropractic treatment. “Everybody thinks holistic, chiropractic is just for back pain and things like that, actually we are full body doctors we work with every organ in the body 06 we work with the full system 08 and as the name says holistic we work with all systems together,” Dr. Randal Horsley, a chiropractic physician, said.
Dr. Horsley said one of the main focuses is overall health. “When it comes to addiction and recoveries, it’s so incredibly important to make that an everyday journey that actually gets results and not this merry go round that everybody seems to get on, on and off,” Dr. Horsley said.
With all the pieces coming together, those who are a part of this effort tell us they’re excited to see the difference it will make. They don’t have an official open day yet, they could open at the beginning of 2023.
They will have a fundraiser to support the house tomorrow at 26023 Governor Stockley Road starting at 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. To find more information on the event, click here.
