DelDOT seeking public input on sidewalks in resort town

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. – The ball is rolling for much-needed new sidewalk construction in Fenwick Island.  Saturday morning, DelDOT is holding a public input workshop for plans for sidewalks to be installed from Lewes Street down to Route 54.

The purpose of the study and the public input is to determine how feasible it will be to implement a continuous sidewalk system along Route 1.

We’re told the state has come up with preliminary drawings that will be on display.

The lack of sidewalks is an issue the town and residents have been hoping to address for years.

“We do have some sidewalks, copiously.  We don’t have enough, then there are still good patches where there are no sidewalks,” said Ralph Page, a part-time Fenwick resident.  “Then you could actually walk around the town. We could actually go to the restaurants without getting in the car and driving literally from one restaurant to another, which is what we’re doing right now.”

The public input session is scheduled for 8 AM to 11 AM Saturday at Fenwick Town Hall.
