Wico. Youth & Civic Civic Center packed for Chris Young concert Friday night

The Wicomico County Civic Center was packed on Friday night for one of the biggest concerts on Delmarva. Chris Young! Amy Caitlin and Anne Riley couldn’t be more excited to see Young. Riley tells 47 ABC, “I love Chris Young, he’s one of my, he’s my favorites.”

Caitlin tells 47 ABC this is my third time seeing him, and for Riley, it’s her fifth! Riley tells 47 ABC, “He puts on a great show and he’s really nice to look at too.” When we asked what Riley would do if she got the chance to meet Young? Riley tells 47 ABC, “I would faint, I would be speechless, I would probably just be staring and then I’d pass out.”

Friday’s concert saw fans of all ages, including Gavin Bender, who happens to be a very big Cassidy Pope fan. Pope, also scheduled to perform on stage. Bender tells 47 ABC, “I’m so excited.” Bender had back stage passes that allowed him to meet Pope.

Bender’s mom Rebecca tells 47 ABC, Pope called out to him in the crowd and dedicated a song to him for his bravery. 47 ABC has followed Gavin’s story throughout his tough medical journey, where he suffers a rare condition. If you’d like to learn more about Gavin, check our related content.

Friday was a big night for the Civic Center, not just because of the concert, but it was also the first major event where the venue was selling alcohol. The Civic Center has served alcohol in the past, but only at private events.

47 ABC caught up with Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver who says they feel fortunate the change was made. Culver tells 47 ABC, “It’s been a long time and a lot of people in Wicomico County have asked for this for many, many years so I feel very fortunate that we’ve been able to get this started. It opens up a whole new venue of concerts to us and events that we can have here.”

Culver adds that they estimate the sale of alcohol brings in about 300,000 dollars in revenue. As far as any concerns, he says they certainly have them.  Culver says they plan on having a lot of extra security and check points that people must go through and everyone who drinks must have a wrist band.
