Homeless, lonely, or hungry on Easter, Shepherd’s Office steps up to help out
GEORGETOWN, Del. – While many on Delmarva spent Sunday meeting the Easter bunny, hunting for eggs, or enjoying a large dinner with their loved ones, the Shepherds office in Georgetown stepped up to provide for those who didn’t have the same opportunities. “It doesn’t matter the reason we just want to be here to be a place for them to land and come and fellowship,” says Greta Browning, Assistant Director of the Shepherds Office.
The Shepherds Office dished out hot meals for anyone in need and they didn’t stop there. There were Easter goodies for adults and children as well as an Easter egg hunt. Whether you’re homeless, lonely, or just simply hungry, Browning says a day like this can give those going through a hard time a little extra strength. “We never know what people face and a lot of people are just one paycheck away,” says Browning. She also tells us, that their efforts go beyond their holiday meals and that’s why she says they work so hard to help when they can.
Meanwhile, Freddie Carswell, a meal recipient says he has his fair share of struggles but places like the Shepherds office give him hope. “I don’t know without them I don’t know where I’d be.” Carswell adds, “It’s always good to have somebody because without nobody it’s a dark place and nobody wants to be in a dark place.”
Carswell says the Shepherds office does more than just provide a hot meal, they also give away free clothes, resources, and a comforting judgment-free zone. “They’re always there for me, they don’t judge me, and they do what they do from the heart,” says Carswell. He adds, “Everybody goes through something and everybody has problems but the only way to fix that is to understand what you’re going through, get help!”
While asking for help may be a big step, Carswell says it can be a life-changing one. “Understand there are better days you know what I’m saying is there’s a dark there has to be a light.”
The Easter meals included ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, potato salad, rolls, and dessert.
