BHM: Black business series for Black History Month

DELMARVA – Black Small Businesses have an opportunity to launch or learn more skills with the help of a new series.

The Small Business Association and Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce launched a business education series during Black History Month. The series is designed to help Black-owned small businesses recover through the pandemic. Kim Adams who recommends the program says this is a good opportunity to look into.

“These opportunities must exist a lot of times we don’t even make it to the table,” Adams acknowledges Black business progression.

She says starting a business is no easy process however it can be done. That is if you take classes, listen and learn, and ask for help. Adams says most importantly it’s important to use the resources available to you. “I think its a great idea the SBA has a lot of programs that I think are underutilized by small businesses by small minority businesses and I think a lot of that is just because they don’t understand the power in it and how the use of it can help their business,” she adds.

47ABC also spoke with Andre Dixon, of the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce who says this is a great opportunity to get more resources to get your business going or learn more skills. He tells us that through these seminars individuals will be better equipped with tools to better access capital and financial resources. “This is going to help a lot of businesses aspiring and current business owners actually get resources and funds and education through the SBA so when they come to apply they’ll be ready, so when they apply their application will be better received and better accepted,” Dixon adds.

The program started Wednesday however the program continues. To register for upcoming classes visit their website.
