tuesday and it will be cool in the low 50s. the wicomico county youth and civic center is packed tonight — for one of the biggest concerts on delmarva. chris young! 47 abc’s michelle mackonochie caught up with fans before the concert started. 08:44:07 “its a big night here at the civic center country music star chris young is set to perform – to talk to some folks to see how they feel about tonights concert.”08:44:17 “very excited.” “i got front row seats.” “i love chris young – he’s one of my – he’s my favorite.” track 1 amy caitlin and anne riley couldn’t be more excited to see chris young. “this is my third time seeing him – and her – its my fifth time seeing him – he puts on a great show and he’s really nice to look at too.” track 2 when we asked what riley would do if she got the chance to meet young.. “oh dear god i would faint – i would be speechless i would probably just be staring and then i’d pass out.” track 3 another fan we spoke with seems to feel the same way… “if you did get to meet chris young what would you say to him – what would you say to him – i don’t know – just that we love his music and we love him.” track 4 tonight’s concert saw fans of all ages – including gavin bender – who happens to be a very big cassidy pope fan. pope — also scheduled to perform on stage. “tell us how excited you are for tonights concert – i’m so excited – and who are you most excited to see – cassidy pope.” “you’re going to go meet cassidy tonight – way excited – and what are you going to say to her – can i please go on stage.” it’s safe to say there are plenty of excited fans here tonight – the concerts about to start but for now – in salisbury michelle mackonochie 47 abc michelle checked in with gavin’s mom — just before the newscast — who tells us the venue would not allow gavin to go up on stage. but cassidy pope did call out to him in the crowd — and dedicated a song to him for his bravery. 47 abc has followed gavin’s story throughout his tough medical journey – where he suffers a rare condition. if you’d like to learn more about gavin – head to our website – 47 abc dot com. it was a big night for the civic center — not just because of the big concert. but this is also the first major event the venue is selling alcohol. to be clear — the civic center has served alcohol in the past — but only at private events. 47 abc caught up with wicomico county executive bob culver who poured the ceremonial first pour. he says they feel fortunate the change was made. “its been a long time and a lot of people in wicomico county have asked for this for many many years so i feel very fortunate that we’ve been able to get this started.” “it opens up a whole new venue of concerts to us and events that we can have here.” culver adds that they estimate the sale of alcohol brings in about 300-thousand dollars in revenue. as far as any concerns — he says they certainly have them. he says they plan on having a lot of extra security — and check points that people must go through — and everyone who drinks must have a wrist band. still to come tonight… we’ll be back with a look at some of the most
