Laurel man arrested for Sunday night home invasion
LAUREL, Del. – A 31-year-old Laurel man is facing multiple charges after a home invasion Sunday night. Delaware State Police arrested Tradon Mccants.
Police say around 8:20 p.m., troopers responded to the 30000 block of Discount Land Road for a home invasion in progress. When troopers arrived, they found Mccants standing inside the front door of the home. Police say they commanded Mccants to exit the home and he was arrested. Mccants had a concealed folding knife and drug paraphernalia on his person, according to police.
Investigators say two female residents were inside the home when they heard a knock on the front door. They went to answer, and saw Mccants wearing a hoodie and holding a blanket standing outside. Police say Mccants then ran and hit the front door, shattering its glass. Mccants then went into the home and hit one of the victims.
Police say the two victims were able to climb out a window and escape. The two hid outside and called 911. Meanwhile, police say Mccants was inside the home, damaging property in one of the bedrooms. He sustained minor injuries, and was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 5. The victims were not hurt in the incident.
Mccants is charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first degree burglary, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, criminal mischief over $1,000, possession of drug paraphernalia, and offensive touching. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $62,200 secured bond.
