Police: Wanted suspect resists arrest, injures officers
DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Police say a traffic stop Friday afternoon led to a list of charges for a Selbyville man, including offensive touching of a law enforcement officer.
Just before 4 p.m., an officer with the Dewey Beach Police Department observed a Chevy Trailblazer traveling southbound on Coastal Highway with heavy front end damage and passing vehicles on the shoulder. A traffic stop was initiated, and police made contact with the driver, identified as 31-year-old James Feger. The officer was then notified that this vehicle was involved in a personal injury accident several blocks north in Dewey Beach.
Feger was taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the recovery of two Xanax tablets, 10 Oxycodone tablets, 25 Clonidine tablets, and 13 bags of Heroin. Feger was subsequently charged with numerous drug and traffic offenses and was issued an unsecured bond to appear.
After processing, officials discovered that Feger was actively wanted out of Anne Arundel County, MD, for a no bond bench warrant, regarding a possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance charge from 2018. When law enforcement notified Feger of the warrant, he allegedly became combative and actively resisted two police officers, and a taser was deployed. Feger was able to escape from the Dewey Beach Police Department and actively resisted officers outside of the building. Officers from the Rehoboth Beach Police Department and Delaware State Police responded to assist.
The officers suffered minor injuries and sustained approximately $300 in damages to their personal property.
Feger was re-arraigned and charged with three additional felonies and numerous misdemeanors, in addition to the out of state warrant from Anne Arundel County. In total, he was charged with possess/consume prescription drug without a prescription, four counts of possess/consume a controlled or counterfeit substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended or revoked, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in personal injury, resisting arrest with force or violence, escape, two counts of offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, two counts of criminal mischief, out of state fugitive, removing or attempting to remove a firearm from the possession of a law enforcement officer, and numerous traffic charges.
He was released on an unsecured bond.
