UPDATE: Crash in Laurel kills one, leaves two critically injured

LAUREL, Del. – Delaware State Police say an investigation is underway following a fatal crash Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the crash happened at around 4:40 p.m. on Seaford Road at the intersection with Mount Zion Road. Investigation has revealed that a 1998 Honda Civic being driven by a 25-year-old Seaford man was traveling northbound on Seaford Road, just south of Mount Zion Road, negotiating a slight right curve. At the same time, a 1998 Mazda B25 being driven by a 55-year-old Delmar man was traveling southbound on Seaford Road in the same area.

For unknown reasons, the vehicles hit each other head on in the northbound lane of Seaford Road.

Police say the 25-year-old driver of the Honda was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. An 18-year-old male, who was a front seat passenger in the Honda, was also not properly restrained. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The 55-year-old Mazda driver was properly restrained and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
