the 52-year-old daycare owner from millsboro — stands accused of killing an infant in her care. day ten in her trial — consisted of more witnesses taking the stand — in her defense. as 47 a-b-c’s lili zheng reports — most testified handy was great with children. track 1 patient — and providing. these are just two ways — parents whose children were formerly enrolled at handy’s little disciples — described the owner — valorie handy. the 52-year-old is accused of killing a ten-month-old baby boy — left in her care in january 2015. the state claims — the child died after being fed a large amount of diphenhydramine — an active ingredient in benadryl. on the final day of testimonies wednesday — the defense called several parents to the stand. one parent — testified she often sent her daughter to the daycare with medications — including orajel, tylenol and advil. the state had very little questions during cross-examinations — but did note handy’s written policy of not administering medications. the same policy — which stated children were required to at least lie down quietly during nap times so she can recharge. also taking the stand on wednesday — handy’s husband. he testified — medications including benadryl — which were collected by the state as evidence were in fact, his– in order to treat his allergies. track 2 those medications were collected from their home in may 2015, which is attached to the daycare. a detective with delaware state police testified five benadryl pills total were missing from the two collected sleeves. however — the defense argued the couple never hid the fact there were pills present in home — and handed them over willingly as evidence. lili zheng, 47 a-b-c. the state and defense teams have now officially rested their cases. closing statements will be made tomorrow morning at 9:30. a dover resident has died as the result of a car crash in new castle county.
