Behind the Scenes: Delaware State Fair preparations

"Oh yes we're ready we're ready, opening day," exclaimed a game employee Deborah Silverschatz.

Come one, come all, come big, come small! It's day one of the Delaware State Fair and thousands of visitors from all over are heading to the fairgrounds to enjoy 10 straight days of fried food, cotton candy, games, amusement rides and more. Vendors and staff say they've been working around the clock to get everything prepared. And although the final product looks perfect there was a lot of work and time put into their displays.

"We got here four days ago. Because it takes about three or four days to set up because you have a lot of stock and inventory to go through," said salesman James Dillard.

"It's a lot of work, a lot of setting up, machines, ball boxes, the frame, the tents, all the stocking up, it takes about three days for prep," said Silverschatz.

"There is a lot of things to prepare and get ready as far as setting up and as far as food," said food vendor Dino Constantiou.

In it's 99th year families will be able to enjoy some of their favorite fair traditions, but organizers hope they might be able to make room for some new ones as well as they welcome this year's newest attractions.

"We also have a new camel show over by the circus so that's going to be pretty exciting too, and then lots of new vendors, lots of great old vendors, and lots of cool new things to eat," said marketing director Tessa MacDonald.

And with the countless numbers of hours worked and days spent preparing for the big day we asked staff why they come back every year? And they had this to say:

"The people. 100% the people. Delaware's a great state I love the people, I love meeting new people, coming back every year seeing everyone growing up,"said Silverschatz.
