Late night driving for teens increases the chance of a fatal crash

Since school is out, more teens are on the road.

Summer months often result in late night driving, which increases the chance of a fatal crash by four times.

Often young drivers don't have a lot of experience. If you add in all the distractions, it can sidetrack your teen. One big distraction is the amount of passengers in the car. Putting all these factors together along with the late night hours, shows why the chances of a crash are higher than usual.

Lieutenant Tim Robinson from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says, "A lot of it is visibility, it is reduced and that along with the lack of experience for new drivers tends to complicate things. If they don't have the experience, they can't react to distance at night and it creates more problems. We tend to see more accidents in the nighttime hours."
