Md. legislator pushes for stricter boating regulations

A Maryland legislator is looking to strengthen current boat safety regulations.

In a letter to the Maryland Boat Act Advisory Committee, Delegate Mary Beth Carozza expressed her support in clarifying language used in boat operation regulations. Those regulations pertain to operating a boat in a negligent manner and also specifying bow riding on a boat as a separate offense.

According to the Natural Resources Police, there have been 16 boat related fatalities in Maryland this year, one of them was the death of a 9 year old boy in Ocean City this summer.

In the letter to the committee, Carozza is also asking that members make changes to current boat education requirements

The next time the Boat Act Advisory Commission will meet again is Thursday, December 1st.
