Humane Animal Partners furry friend Friday

LEWES, Del.– Animal shelters across Delmarva are looking for ways to help their four-legged friends find their forever homes.

Humane Animal Partners is hoping to make that task a little easier with their Furry Friends Friday campaign.

The program gives potential pet oweners a chance to meet some animals that are seeking their forever home and a chance to learn more about adoption.

Volunteer Barbara Mingle says that community exposure really makes a difference when it comes to adoptions.

“We do the three libraries, Milton, Rehoboth, and Lewes. We roatate the dogs and they get to interact with people that are just walking by,” Mingle said. “I think just getting in front of people and letting them know that we exist is probably the key.”

In addition to Furry Friend Friday, Humane Animal Partners offers a variety of other programs to promote pet retention including low-cost vaccination clinics and free community pet food pantries.

Event volunteers even shared some advice for those who are considering adding a new forever best friend to your home.

“Go out and meet lots of pets,” Mingle said. “Whether it’s a dog or cat meet lots of them and the pet will actually pick you over you picking them.”
